After cleaning up vertices and weird edges in my model I could start with the texturing. I did a simple plaid pattern in photoshop and load it in Maya. The problem is, that the pattern would not show up straight once the unwrapping was done. I tried cutting seams in different places and optimizing the uv map as good as possible. Then I moved and adjust the uv map manually too to get it a bit straighter, at least on the legs. I tried it a few times:
Version 1
Version 2
Version 3
The bottom part was way easier to do, I did the polka dots pattern also in Photoshop and proceeded like the trousers.
I added laces too. The shoes have three different materials with different colors and shine. The laces have a fabric bump map as well.
