TROUBLED WATERS
A young sourcerer hast to defeat a giant beast, in order to continue her journey to accomplish her mission.
A story by Andrea Lalanda Wrege
Lyn is a young sorcerer from a small village called Hydel. She's one of the few who has the gift of fire and energy, which she inherit from her father. Thanks to him and to many years of hard training, she got to control her powers.
Lyn set out on a journey to accomplish a mission. She must get to the top of the blue mountains. There she must find a well hidden cabin where an ancient wise woman lives, who can provide her information for her mission.
It is a sunny afternoon and Lyn has been walking for hours. She needs to rest. She walks along the river until she founds a big tall tree. She leaves her bag against the foot of the tree and leans back on the trunk. The warmth of the sun is so nice. She closes her eyes. The wind caresses her face. If she only could stop time and forget everything for a moment...
She gets thirsty. Lyn stands up and approaches the river's bank. The water is crystal. When she crouches down to get some water, she sees something shiny out of the corner of her eyes. It seems like a gold nugget... or is it a pendant? She isn't sure. But she just can't look away from it. What is it? She needs to know. Lyn brings her hand closer... What happens next passes really fast.
A giant figure rises from the river in front of her. Lyn avoids its claws at the last moment. In one jump she grabs her bag and runs away, while the beast roars.
She doesn't stop. She looks briefly back and sees the beast on her heels. Faster! With difficulty she takes a rune out of her bag. She has to wait for the right moment...
Through the hills she makes out a tall rock. She has to get there. She turns right. However, the monster takes advantage of this shortcut and gets to hurt Lyn in the back.
Lyn invoked a fire ball. Not that effective, without the rune she wouldn't be able to defeat it. She has to get to the rock. Even injured , she enchants a force field between her and the monster. It won't las long, so she rushes again to the rock. She can hear the furious roars of the beast but she doesn't look back.
Just a little more. The growling get stronger, it seems like the force field has vanished. Damn it, she thought she had more time. Faster!
She finally gets there and gets up as best as she can. She tries not to pay attention to the bloody clothes. If she deals a spell from the top, it'll be more likely to not be seen and the attack will be more powerful. She takes the rune and starts the spell. The monster is almost there.
Lyn feels the magic ready. She runs to the edge to attack and... nothing. The beast is gone. Where the hell is it? All her senses are to the limit and her heart beats like crazy.
Then Lyn makes the mistake to lower the attack position for an instant. Something grabs her by the foot and puts her upside down to the space. The rune slips from her hand. She screams but no one can hear her. Something shiny is hanging from the beast's tail. It opens its jaws to eat its prey. Everything turns black.
Lyn opens her eyes. She feels the adrenalin soaring. She is still laying under the tree. She checks her back. Not a single scratch. Lyn tries to calm down. It was so real...
Lyn gets up to continue her journey. But while Lyn goes in the distance, she doesn't notice a strange object hanging from her bag. A golden shiny object...
